The India Community Center will celebrate the heritage of Parsees one of the world's oldest cultures Aug. 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 555 Los Coches St. Seldom-seen Parsee artifacts, exhibits and photos are on display all month at the community center.

Parsee Day, organized by India Community Center and the Zoroastrian Association of Northern California, will include entertainment featuring a musical skit, a garba dance and a presentation on the history and culture of Parsees. A traditional Parsee lunch will also be available. The event is free and open to all. There will be a $5 charge for lunch.

Parsees are followers of the Zoroastrian religion, thought to be established around 500 BC. They migrated to India in the 8th century, and now live primarily in Mumbai.

The small community which numbers less than 140,000 worldwide has several notable members among it, including conductor Zubin Mehta, the late Freddie Mercury of the band Queen, novelist Rohinton Mistry and the Indian business dynasty, the Tatas.

A SPECIAL menu will begin at The Parsee restaurant in Highgate on August 21 to mark a religious festival.

The menu will be introduced at the Highgate Hill restaurant to celebrate the Zoroastrian New Year, also known as The Parsee, and will last until September 21.

Head chef Cyrus Todiwala MBE has compiled a menu of traditional dishes.

One is the Parsee Sunday Curry, a rich chicken curry of peanuts, roasted chickpeas, cashews, almonds, kashmiri red chilli and spices.

Zoroastrianism was the dominant world religion during the Persian empires but the number of followers in modern Iran has declined to about 45,000.
