The Gujarat riots have been one of the bloodiest in our history of riots. In retrospect, it has made people think. It even got filmmaker Rahul Dholakia thinking. Remember Dholakia? He’s the same man who directed a light-hearted family comedy Kehta Hai Dil Baar Baar starring Jimmy Shergill and Kim Sharma, a couple of years back.

So moved was Rahul by the riots episode that he decided to make a film on the subject and has successfully completed it now. The film titled Parzania stars Naseeruddin Shah, Sarika and American actor, Corin Nemec. This songless movie which is based on a real life incident is about a Parsi family who find themselves in the turmoil that the riots caused. It revolves around a young boy named Parzan who gets lost amidst the chaos. Dholakia is glad that the Censor Board has approved the film. And so delighted was Rahul that he offered his thanks at the Mahim Church, Haji Ali and Siddhivinayak temple.

Interestingly most of the actors have given up their fees for the film. Rahul feels that he has a certain responsibility towards the family, on whom the film is based. The film will be premiered at the Pusan Film Festival in October.
